D is for dog

After reading Go dog Go, We chose “Dd” for our letter of the week. What better way to tie the two together then to turn the letter “D” into a dog.

I created giant letter “D” printed it out and then cut it for her. I also prepared all of the pieces before hand. Since Strawberry is only 3 and she hasn’t mastered scissor skills yet, I’ve found it makes everything much easier if I have everything cut and ready to go for her.

I only had a template for the giant “D” the rest of the pieces I just drew on construction paper and cut them out.  You can download the Giant letter D

With everything prepared ahead of time it made it very easy when it came time to do the craft. I handed her the supplies, helped with glue when she asked and gave her ideas on where she might want to place pieces, but the rest she did herself.

Strawberry has become very independent with gluing and placing with minor help and clues. Here is the final product.

Homeschool Week 5

We had a great week in our homeschool. We love to add hands on learning where ever we can.

In History we learned about Abraham, Jacob and Esau, and Joseph. For Geography Raspberry and Blueberry made aged maps of Greece. They labeled the map with information we have been learning about. Once labeled they crinkled it up and dropped it in a pot of tea. I pre-cooked the tea and allowed it to cool while the girls made their maps.  They soaked the maps in the tea for 20 minutes. They then removed them and allowed them to dry. To protect them they placed them in a sheet protector before filing it in their history binders. This was such a fun hands on craft for geography.

In science the girls practiced separating compounds.

Strawberry worked a lot in her writing journal this week. This writing journal is amazing, it allows her to practice different pencil directions while also working on her fine motor skills.

In preschool we also learned about direction and the difference between left and right with these fun games.

In sensory play we had fun with water and testing our color mixing

We also did a letter craft this week. Our book of the week was The Foot Book and we did F is for fish for our craft.

F is for Fish

Our letter of the week this week was F, so we chose to do F is for fish for our letter craft.

I printed this f is for fish template and traced it onto yellow, white and black construction paper. I cute out the pieces and place all the pieces in a gallon zip lock. I prepare all of our letter crafts to make the craft time run more smoothly. This allows Strawberry to jump right into the craft and not have to wait for me to cut something out.
